imageEvery year, the Pacuare is internationally recognized as one of the top 5 whitewater rafting rivers in the World. The Pacuare is on the Caribbean slope of the central imagemountain range, east of San Jose. It winds through a virgin rainforest in the Cabecar Indian Reserve. It is one of the most magnificent rivers you will ever see!

The Pacuare is magical for many reasons. First–Rainforest. The virgin rainforest is full of life – monkeys, butterflies, birds, mammals, imageand thousands of plant species. Half-way through the tour is a narrow canyon. This is a great place to jump into the warm water and marvel at the spectacular surroundings.

imageSecond–World-class rafting. Most of the Pacuare rafting trips feature Class III-IV rapids. But other parts of the river are Class V – VI, which are only accessible by advanced rafters and kayakers. The average trip is 16 miles downstream, alternating between great rapids and calm waters.

Third–Rios Tropicales. The rafting company we recommend is absolutely top-notch. Rios Tropicales is one of the most experienced rafting companies in Costa Rica, and certainly the imagesafest. The well-trained, professional guides and first-rate equipment ensure you will have a safe and memorable trip down the Pacuare.

There are other raftable rivers in Costa Rica. But none compare to the Pacuare’s majesty and magic. 2 and 3-day trips are also available. Minimum age for all trips is 14. No prior experience needed. Not extremely strenuous. Transportation from San Jose, breakfast, lunch, tour, guide and all equipment are included.

This is an all-day tour–expect to be gone for 10-12 hours from pick up to drop off! We do not recommend that you take any valuables with you. If you want to take photos, the tour company sells underwater cameras (some photos above were taken with one of these cameras). Or, bring one with you before you leave the U.S. (They are nearly impossible to find and buy in Costa Rica.) Wear shoes that can get wet, swimsuit and quick-drying shorts, waterproof sunscreen, towel and complete change of clothes to change into after rafting.

Whether you’re a novice or experienced rafter, don’t miss rafting on the Pacuare! Many of our guests have said this was the best day of their vacation!
